The course covers the following topics:

• Identify the four main elements necessary for a fire to occur
• Identify the meaning of the letters ABCD in the NFPA fire classification system
• Discuss methods that can be used to prevent fires
• Discuss when Hot Work permits are necessary
• Describe some of the common requirements on Hot Work permits
• Discuss why it is important to select the correct class of fire extinguisher
• Describe how to use a fire extinguisher effectively
• Describe the first aid for burns

In addition to presentation of the course material, the following must be done to fulfill the regulatory requirements:

• Identify fire hazards in the workplace
• Review the Emergency Response Plan
• Perform hands-on training with a fire extinguisher
• Review the Hot Work permit the worker is expect to use
